Euro

Welcome at the Tatra Banka web site, devoted to the theme of EURo implementation in the Slovak Republic. Within the provided links you can find information that is important in the preparation process of transition to a new local currency.
EURo as a single currency of the European Monetary Union - the name Euro was selected by members of respective governments in December 1995 - was adopted on 1.1.1999 by 11 EU member states (Germany, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Austria, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, France and Finland) for their national currency. Greece joined them on 1.1.2001 and since 01/01/2007 the Euro has replaced also former Slovenian tolar whereby Slovenia has become another member of the European Economic and Monetary Union. Since 01/01/2008 the Eurozone no longer has 13 but 15 members, Malta and Cyprus have joined as new members.
In Slovakia, the planned date of Euro implementation is 1.1.2009. On this day, euro shall be instituted into both cash and cashless circulation, without any transition period.
The underlying document, which informs about individual steps necessary for the successful transition to the new currency, is the National plan of EURo Implementation in SR.
