National plan of Euro implementation in SR

On 6.7.2005, the Government of SR approved the National plan of Euro implementation in SR. Material, which was designed jointly by the NBS and the Slovak Ministry of Finance, in close cooperation with other central bodies and the private sector, deals with the organizational and technical steps necessary for a trouble-free implementation of a common European currency Euro in Slovakia on January 1st 2009.

National plan defines specific tasks, deadlines for their fulfillment and responsible subjects in each area, to whom the preparation and transition to Euro pertains, from legislative tasks, through tasks for the banking sector, public administration, self-administration, enterprise field, informatics, to a sufficient and high quality public information.

National plan assumes simultaneous Euro implementation in cash and non-cash payment systems; is based on the principle of contract continuity, defines the obligation of dual pricing (SKK and Euro) before and after the common currency implementation as one of the main principles of client protection. Another important principle anchored in the document is the policy not to harm the citizen; this principle is projected mainly in the rounding regulations when converting from SKK to Euro.
