"Reborn Dances" Festival
The "Reborn Dances" Festival is held for the sixth time and provides to the widest audience good quality performances and new music styles. The festival has been modified in several development stages, and the sixth year will bring original performance of a music and dancing show, with participation of local and foreign dancing groups, as e.g. the Lúčnica and SĽUK ensembles, Laci Strike, and the Street Dance Academy. The main idea of the festival is to present a national culture in the form which speaks to all generations, and future development thereof. This year, the performances will be organized for the first time in the Slovak National Theatre.
100 Books of Tatra banka
In February, the third year of the successful 100 Books of Tatra banka project was organized. Tatra banka, as the traditional Slovak bank, supports the original literary works in Slovakia, which is also the aim of the project. By buying books for libraries in Slovak towns, we want to approach especially young people, trying to teach them how to read books again. However, in the last years, the project had become much popular also with wide public. Delivery of books to libraries is connected with meetings with writers and authors, and managers of the Tatra banka branches. The third year is significant also due to the fact that the number of libraries obtaining books will be the symbolic one hundred.
"Collector´s Passion" Exhibition
Tatra banka traditionally supports the art, including the art of painting. Having organized several exhibitions of works from private collections, Ivan Jančár, curator and Jan Kukal, organizer, decided to present a selection from private collections from the period 1957 - 1970 called "Collector´s Passion". This is the most thrilling era in history in our art, which is mostly exhibited by the Bratislava City Gallery. The exhibition shows paintings from private collections of the passionate collectors: Ernest Zmeták, Ivan Melicherčík, Jan Kukal with his wife, and Bohumil Hanzel.
Pohoda Festival
The Pohoda Festival has been organized since 1997, and the first impulse was stagnation of club and festival events in Slovakia. During ten years, the small local event has become the most prestigious music festival in the whole former Czechoslovakia. Together with the accompanying events (theatre, film, photographs, dances, etc.), it shows unique exhibition of non-commercial art. The festival is characteristic by various types of programs and free atmosphere. Due to its scope and impact, it has become an event of European importance and may be compared with the best festivals in the world.
