Projects 2004
„Hellers" To Support Elementary Schools
Due to withdrawing the invalid 10- and 20-heller coins from circulation, in 2004, as the only one of Slovak banks, Tatra banka prepared an annual charity project offering an alternative and reasonable disposal of invalid coins. From the beginning of 2004, in each branch there was a cash box made by pupils of elementary schools, for collection of invalid coins. Each branch cooperated with the elementary school from its neighborhood in order support the local and municipal character of the project, and thus, the visitors to the branch had an option not only to change small coins for higher nominal values, but also to „dispose" of them and thus help the children in elementary schools. Moreover, the amount collected from invalid coins during the year will be doubled at the end of 2004 by a bank´s contribution and will be donated to an elected school. Based on the current statistic information, it should represent the amount of SKK 500,000 (EUR 16,596.96)1. The principals of the co-operating schools welcomed that activity and actively participated in organization thereof. The cash boxes placed in branches were made by the elementary school pupils in art workshop lessons, and thus in that symbolic way, they were engaged in school activities and improved their own conditions.
