100 Books of Tatra banka
Tatra banka, as a Slovak entity, wishes to support the Slovak culture, literature, and literacy of its citizens, and thus it has decided to prepare the project for support of the original literary works in Slovakia - to teach the people to read the books, also through libraries. The project started in 2004 and continues in this year. Its aim is annual systematic support and promotion of original literary works in all regions of Slovakia, in the form of buying and donating books written by Slovak authors to municipal libraries in Slovakia. The essence of the project is "supply" to municipal libraries in elected towns by books purchased by the sponsor from publishers publishing original Slovak books. Each library will receive 100 books in the value of SKK 25,000 (EUR 829.85)1. Delivery of books will be connected with meetings with the writers and author´s reading, to be held in individual libraries.
Tatra banka Prize for the Best Thesis
The many year activities of Tatra banka in support of education of academic professionals and its co-operation with the Department of Informatics of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Slovak Technical University resulted in every year Tatra banka Prize awarding ceremony for the best Thesis in software engineering. This project is going on for 7 successful years, when the bank provided financial remuneration for the efforts and level of the highly professional Theses in the aggregate amount of SKK 805,000 (EUR 26,721.10)1. Tatra banka, as a many-year leader in using modern information technologies is naturally interested in supporting and increasing the educational level of the graduates from the Slovak Technical University, many of which are employed in Tatra banka. The Tatra banka Prize for the best Thesis in the academic year 2004/2005 was given to Ing. Peter Horný for his Thesis named „Application of Methods of Getting Information from Databases for Banking Sector". The memorial certificate and the financial remuneration were delivered to the winner by Ing. Karel Fíla, a member of the Board of Directors of Tatra banka.
