Transition to EURO

Concerning the expected migration to the EURO currency from January 1, 2009 Tatra banka is undertaking all necessary steps in order to ensure trouble-free and smooth process also in the area of the acceptance of payment cards via payment terminals.

Therefore the software, which is currently being installed in new payment terminals will fully support transactions in the new currency from January 1, 2009. At the same time the software will be updated in the course of 2008 also in all payment terminals originally installed with business partners with an older software version.

Transition to the new currency will thereby be completely comfortable for business partners in the area of payment card acceptance as well.


Procedure of credit card payment by means of a credit terminal:

• credit terminals of Tatra banka can accept the magnetic credit cards, as well as the chip credit cards
• scan the credit card in the reading device so that you put the credit card into the chip reading device on the credit terminal. Shall the credit card not include a chip, but only a magnetic stripe, move the magnetic stripe on the card over the reading device in one direction
• enter the amount of payment on the credit terminal
• shall the credit terminal require a PIN code, ask the customer to enter it on the keypad of the credit terminal
• shall the credit terminal evaluate the bank operation as a non-PIN operation, the holder of the credit card confirms, that the data on the receipt are correct by his signature, which has to be identical with the signature on the credit card.
• the credit terminal will send the required data by means of telecommunication lines for verification into the authorization centre of Tatra banka
• payment verification will be carried out within several seconds
• after a successful or unsuccessful development of bank operation, the credit terminal will print out a receipt in two copies
• a closing on the credit terminal needs to be done at least once a day
