Discover the Story Behind the New Year´s wish for 2026 (PF 2026)

Art can capture what ordinary words often cannot. Therefore, we have created the wish for the upcoming year together with the Tatra banka Foundation Award for Art laureates who bring a different view on moments that we can experience in the new year.

The author Michal Tallo has written a poem entitled “Závetrie” (Retreat) especially for this occasion. The poem is about finding hope yet in more challenging moments and it became the main theme of the New Year´s wish for 2026. The poem was adapted into a graphic form by the creative studio Andrej & Andrej.

 

The Poem Message

"The concept is simple in essence and I believe it is also clear from the text itself: four consecutive couplets are always based on the same principle of reversing expectations. It aims to point out the possibility of finding hope, goodness and positive emotions even in places and situations where we might not expect them at first glance; to find calm and peace in “empty" days after major holidays, to perceive darkness not as something scary, but as a space for relaxation, to use the darkness of night as an opportunity to see the stars in the sky. The ambition is to motivate people to look at seemingly bad and cheerless situations with different eyes. And not to give up – which seems more important to me today than ever before."

Michal Tallo,
Tatra banka Foundation Award for Art laureate in the category of literature, writer, translator and journalist. He writes poetry, prose and articles about films and books he publishes both at home and abroad. He is the author of the book “Všetko je v poriadku, všade je láska” (Everything is Alright, Love is Everywhere) – a collection of stories about tired people on the borderline of reality and dreams who cannot escape the places they carry within.
