Mortgage assistance from Tatra banka
Mortgage assistance is a contribution that will help you manage an increased monthly housing loan payment. Tatra banka will provide it from May 1, 2026, in accordance with the Housing Loan Act.
Eligibility conditions differ depending on whether you have already received assistance or will be applying for it anew. Therefore, we have divided the information into two groups:
Mortgage assistance – clients with assistance (ÚPSVaR)
This section is intended for clients who were granted a contribution for increased loan payments from the Office of Labor, Social Affairs, and Family (ÚPSVaR) before 01. 12. 2025. Mortgage assistance for this group is provided automatically.
How the assistance works
You do not need to submit an application – the entitlement arises automatically.
The assistance will be paid to you as long as you continue to meet the legal conditions.

Payment of Mortgage assistance
- The money will be credited to your Tatra banka account from which you repay the mortgage.
- By the end of May 2026, assistance will be paid retroactively for the period from December 2025 to April 2026.
- Thereafter, assistance will be paid monthly, by the end of the month following the payment of the installment.
Mortgage assistance – New Applicants
This section contains the conditions for clients who have not received a contribution through ÚPSVaR, meet the legal requirements, and apply to the bank for assistance from May 1, 2026.
Conditions for New Applicants
- You started repaying the housing loan at Tatra banka before January 1, 2024.
- After the first fixed-rate change following July 31, 2025, your interest rate and installment increased.
- The loan is secured by real estate located in the territory of the Slovak Republic.
- The financed property serves as personal housing for the applicant or close persons.
- One of the following conditions applies:
- The loan was provided for the acquisition, construction, modification, or maintenance of an apartment or family house and has a minimum maturity of 5 years.
- The loan was provided to repay another housing loan. The loan is secured by a lien on an apartment or family house and was granted to repay another housing loan.
- The average taxable income of the debtor and all co-debtors in 2024 did not exceed 1.6 times the average wage in the Slovak Republic in 2024 (i.e., a maximum of 2 438.40 EUR per month).
- The debtor and co-debtors have residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic.
- The applicant is not a recipient of assistance for another loan.
- The entitlement arises for only one of the debtors if there are multiple debtors.

Example:
Increase in installment from 400 EUR to 520 EUR → difference of 120 EUR → assistance = 90 EUR (75 %).
How to apply for mortgage assistance
You can apply for mortgage assistance from May 1, 2026, either by phone or in person at a branch. We recommend submitting the application only after paying the first increased installment.

Payment of Mortgage assistance
The money will be credited to your Tatra banka account from which you repay the mortgage.
For applications submitted by July 31, 2026:
- Assistance will be paid retroactively for the period from December 2025 (if entitlement to the respective installments arose), and this will be done by the end of the month following the submission of the application.
- Thereafter, assistance will be paid monthly, always by the end of the month following the payment of the installment.
For applications submitted after July 31, 2026:
- The assistance will be paid retroactively for the month prior to the application submission (if the entitlement to the respective installment arose), and this will be done by the end of the month following the application submission.

What is mortgage assistance?
Mortgage assistance is voluntary help from banks to compensate for increased mortgage payments. The amount is 75 % of the difference between the current increased payment and the reference payment, up to a maximum of 150 EUR per month.
Who provides mortgage assistance?
Mortgage assistance is provided by banks according to the law on housing loans. Tatra banka has been providing it since May 1, 2026.
Do I have to submit an application if I received a contribution from the ÚPSVaR?
No. If you were granted a contribution from the ÚPSVaR before December 1, 2025, the mortgage assistance will be paid to you automatically.

You can apply for mortgage assistance by phone through the DIALOG Live service at *1100, in person at any of our branches or through the Tatra banka mobile app
What is the amount of assistance?
The assistance is 75 % of the difference between the current increased payment and the reference payment, up to a maximum of 150 EUR per month.
How is the reference payment determined?
- For clients with a contribution from ÚPSVaR: a fixed amount provided by ÚPSVaR.
- For new recipients: the payment before the first fixed-rate change (after July 31, 2025) or before the first deferred payment (if a deferral was in progress at that time).
Can I receive assistance for multiple loans?
No. Mortgage assistance is always provided for only one loan agreement and to only one person.
Do I have to pay the installments on time to receive assistance?
Yes. To be eligible for mortgage assistance, the installment must be paid no later than the end of the month following its due date.
