Most innovative bank in CEE is from Slovakia

Global Finance published a list of most innovative banks of the world. Tatra banka won in the region of Central and Eastern Europe, whereby it confirmed the position of the innovation leader not only at the level of Slovakia but also beyond its borders.

Useful innovations for greater comfort of clients

The promise of the Tatra banka brand is to bring innovations centred on clients and their comfort. Over the past 10 years, we have introduced many novelties at the local and regional level. They include, for example:

2020: online account opening for entrepreneurs
2019: chatbot Adam^TB
2018: Facial biometrics^TB
2017: Business banking^TB
2016: second generation of mobile payments
2015: online banking in smart watch
2014: ATM cash withdrawal with mobile
2013: voice biometrics
2012: mobile payments
2011: digital signature

Except for this approach, three other innovations from the previous year caught the jury´s attention. One of them is a unique financial education for all secondary schools - VR Generation. We combined the technology of education in virtual reality with the Slovak artist and rapper Ego in cooperation with Virtual Medicine in November 2022 and brought it to secondary schools.

Last year we also developed a solution for accessing facial biometrics as a service. That way we became the first bank in Slovakia, in the entire region and we believe that worldwide as well, which is ready to provide this kind of non-banking services.

Moving daily banking up to a new level has contributed to Tatra banka's victory. The Account for blue planet^TB provides bank´s clients with a unique combination of daily banking and intelligent technology towards sustainable future.

We are glad that our approach has been awarded also by the international magazine Global Finance, which has granted us the title of the most innovative bank in the region,“ says Michal Liday, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tatra banka.

Innovation strategy as path to success

Tatra banka has been successfully bringing innovative solutions both inside the bank and to its clients in the long-term. This ambition stems from the ability to constantly transform and innovate its processes and organisation so that it´s ready to face the present and future challenges. As one of the few companies, it has a dedicated innovation department in the region. The main task of the department isn't to come up with all the ideas but to strengthen the internal innovation culture and help talented colleagues in the form of inspiration and acquisition of new skills.

“We are glad that awards from international magazines confirm that what we do resonates yet beyond the boundaries of Slovakia. Our innovation strategy makes a fundamental contribution to this. As part of its activities, we want to take a closer look at the wider possibilities of scaling our innovations. That´s also the reason why we, for instance, created a unique Venture Builder team in 2022, which deals with this area,“ concludes Martin Kubík, member of the Board of Directors of Tatra banka responsible for IT.
